Natanel Gluska's art furniture from Jarrah railway sleepers

Natanel Gluska is a Swiss artist who currently lives and works in Singapore. He is renowned for producing one-off, handcrafted furniture pieces that become collectors’ items. Over the last decade, Gluska’s unique art pieces have become highly sought-after among clients worldwide that include Ian Schrager, Philippe Starck, Karl Lagerfeld and Donna Karan. His work has been featured at the Kortrijk Biennale, Sotheby’s Gallery and Art Basel. Here, he transforms Australian Jarrah wood from unused railway sleepers into art furniture that delights in both form and function.

Seeing the hidden beauty of the crocodile is about looking into its inherent shape, and capturing the potential that it is. Here in Gluska’s art piece, the surface area of the crocodile’s back is used to its full potential, honed with purpose and perfection.

No material is wasted in this one-of-a-kind piece. The recycled Jarrah side table embodies the essence of Gluska’s impetus in breathing new life into abandoned and antiquated materials, such as old railway sleepers.

The Majestic is beauty captured in 70 pieces of recycled wooden railway sleepers, all preserved in its inherent state, form and texture, to build a hybrid of a one-off functional piece of artwork that not only respects its origin but emphasizes its beauty shed in a different light.
