We used a interesting mixture of new and used railway sleepers to create this solid set of stairs that cuts through an existing retaining wall, and gains access to the higher garden level. A lot of digging was involved through sticky clay, but in the end the staircase fits beautifully within the existing structure, and we are very pleased.

Thanks for the really useful photos showing the process you used to build these set of railway sleeper steps, from muddy start to impressive finish. Designing something around an existing structure can be pretty tricky, yet you've succeeded in creating a remarkable set of steps that fit perfectly, and are a bold and attractive addition to the garden.
