A beautiful setting for your railway sleeper vegetable beds and an ingenious way of keeping marauding rabbits at bay, who can now only look enviously at your wonderful crop, rather than sampling it in the dead of night!

It's great to see the 'before and after' of where Dom & Sarah have placed their raised beds, and also that they were easy enough to assemble. All that's needed now is some planting up. Hopefully they'll send us some more pictures when the veg or plants are taking off, and they're winning the local flower show competition!

Mark's photos and practical account of his railway sleeper pond construction is really inspiring and practically useful for anyone wanting to follow in his footsteps. He describes perfectly both the challenges and solutions of using uneven reclaimed railway sleepers, and how he approached each stage in the building process. His satisfaction and pleasure in his finished pond is there for all to see.

Another great railway sleeper creation. The flowing curved raised beds look brilliant. Cutting Azobe railway sleepers can be pretty tough let alone sinking patio lights into them as well, so congratulations both to Jo and to the landscaper Gavin Bennett. The little bench offcut is very sweet!

Wherever you walk in Britain, following isolated footpaths that meander and criss-cross country streams and ditches, you will find tiny foot bridges made from used railway sleepers, that rescue you from getting your feet wet as you squelch through ankle deep mud. Simple, effective and much appreciated.

HORSING AROUND WITH RAILWAY SLEEPERS
A horse menage (or exercise arena) in Goadby Marwood, Leicestershire, with retaining walls made from used railway sleepers slotted into steel RSJs or H beams.Concreting vertical steel RSJ's into the ground like fence posts, and then sliding in new or used railway sleepers, is a simple, strong and long lasting way of creating a retaining wall. You'll find much tried examples of this in most farms in the country, side whether for silage bays, muck heaps or the sturdy walls of pole barns and cattle sheds.

Thanks to Andy for showing us what he has created with our reclaimed Australian tropical hardwood railway sleeper. The wrought iron supports contrast perfectly with the weathered and pitted finish of the old Jarrah railway sleeper, creating a dramatic and original piece of furniture for his lounge.

All credit to Charles and Fiona's determination to move 28 railway sleepers (with help from their old Fergie tractor!) Great refurbishment of their railway sleeper raised beds, yielding years of future crops. A really beautiful and peaceful walled garden.
