HEATHER"S WOODEN 'TILED' PATIO MADE FROM RECLAIMED TROPICAL HARDWOOD RAILWAY SLEEPERS

11 April 2021 / Posted in: Railway Sleeper News

HEATHER

Thanks to Heather for the wonderful photos of her excellent project. A lovely 'tiled' effect by using small sections of old tropical hardwood railway sleepers to imaginatively create a unique, weathered, wooden patio surface. Really attractive, hard wearing and an impressive transformation of what was there before.

"IF THERE"S A SPACE - FILL IT"! Karen's railway sleeper answer to creating more planting space

11 April 2021 / Posted in: Railway Sleeper News

Yes, it's a popular saying that is shared by many gardeners! Lawns are gradually nibbled away by the additions of endless planting areas, veg plots and railway sleeper raised beds, until the main grass area has been reduced to narrow walkways between the herbacious borders! It's the unstoppable and exciting natural progression of creating more and more growing areas. Of course, there may be objections to this. What is this obsession (by mainly men) to have large striped lawns, as though they were recreating Wimbledon, Wembley or a croquet lawn? I'm sure it's connected to the power and excitement of turbo lawnmower gadgetry!

JAMES'S FLOODLIGHTS and BALL NETTING with NEW TELEGRAPH POLES

James purchased some new telegraph poles to hold some floodlights and support some ball netting.
He reckoned they look pretty cool. We agree. They do look spectacular. An amazing setting for a 5 a side football match, surrounded by floodlit overhanging trees.

Hundreds of reclaimed railway sleepers slotted into steel RSJ,H or I beams

Hundreds of reclaimed railway sleepers slotted into steel RSJ,H or I beams

In the busy world of building supplies, you need practicality, efficiency and durability for your bays of materials. As loading machines push and knock against the walls every day, the steel RSJ framework and hardwood railway sleepers take quite a battering, and they are up to the task! The added bonus with this system of slotting railway sleepers into these steel channels, is that should one railway sleeper ever break, you can slide it out and replace it! Normally seen in commercial settings, this method is gaining popularity in domestic projects, where the landscape design requires both raw strength, practical construction and an industrial look.

NICK'S STUNNING RAILWAY SLEEPER SCULPTURES

01 January 2021 / Posted in: Railway Sleeper News

NICK'S STUNNING RAILWAY SLEEPER SCULPTURES

Over the years I have experienced and enjoyed thousands of railway sleeper projects all over the world from humble vegetable raised beds, to ambitious landscaping transformations. Dramatic railway sleeper steps in New Zealand mountains. Eye catching railway sleeper walls clinging to valleys around temples in Thailand. Humble railway sleeper houses in southern Chile. Quirky and humerous railway sleeper signs in western Australia. So many unique and precious designs that lift the heart or bring a smile to your face. And Nick's wonderful railway sleeper sculptures add to that amazing world of railway sleeper creations. They are dramatic, stunning, inventive and playful. Solid yet etherial. Other worldly yet concretely practical. Wonderful.
