I turned a bowl for my father's 101st birthday and filled it with healthy treats. I then made a small coaster on my lathe, it shows beautiful golden flecks which are minerals sucked up by the roots I believe. I also built a low retaining wall with the bulk of the railway sleepers. I did all the moving myself using a trolley I built 12 years ago when I originally landscaped in oak (now all rotten). I cut all the mitres by hand, around 15 mins a cut. I turned some pegs to fill the drilled holes. I have 4 railway sleepers left over and I'm hoping to make some furniture and probably more bowls.

Your beautiful bowl that you made for your Father's 101st birthday is stunning, and I love the 'other worldly' close up photograph of the wood grain of the coaster. I know how tough and heavy the tropical hardwoods are to work with, and I admire your determination and craftmanship. Cutting all the mitres by hand is so impressive.
