James Gill's deck with new railway sleepers
We wanted to have a deck but something different so when I spoke to Jerry at Railwaysleepers.com I found what I was looking for. I built it by running a sleeper under each side of the deck and then laying the sleepers over these. This made it really easy as the sleepers are self supporting so I didn’t need to build a frame and I didn’t need to level the whole area. It only took a day to build and by using the Timberlock sleeper screws it doesn’t move at all, it’s like it’s made of one huge piece of wood. Amazing to see what you've created in one day! A brilliant transformation from a shed in the corner, to an open, attractive and elegant elegant decking area. A great example also of how quick and functional railway sleepers can be in creating a deck. A day's work, some 3m x 250mm x 125mm new pine sleepers and timberlok screws, and hey presto!
