Turkish walkways with old railway sleepers
Turkish delight - Decking walkways made from railway sleepers. Shortly after the astounding ruins of the Roman town, amphitheatre, high street etc.. at Patara in Turkey, there is one of the longest beaches in Turkey. Leading on to it are hundreds of used railway sleepers, bleached by the sun, that provide a wonderful walkway on to the sand.

As I approached the long wooden walkway, I wondered if indeed they were railway sleepers. It was only when I saw the plates where the railway line had been attached, that I realised that they were indeed the real thing… Reclaimed Turkish railway sleepers enjoying a second life in the sun!
