It is probably one of the most recognisable and universal forms of transport in the world, that touches every continent.    

There is something fascinating and enthralling about a railway line. Whether it's that exciting moment when you walk or drive across a railway track, and stop and glance either way, almost hoping to see a train coming. Whether it's that powerful moment when an electric train speeds through a station at over a hundred miles an hour with an overwhelming whoosh of air. Steam engines, chugging diesels, Eurostars and futuristic Bullet trains, they all conjure a romantic link with the past, and a sense of a greener future.
