The glitzy new garden centre at East Bridgford is an impressive palace-like creation next to the humble building it replaces. Rows of vibrant plants are displayed on raised bed planters made from new softwood railway sleepers, and the multi coloured offerings almost jump out into your passing trolley, as you cruise through endless labyrinths of furniture, clothes, cakes and garden extraveganza. I guess it's like the cultural change from corner shop to supermarket. We all mourn the passing of the personable little nursery, yet race to spend our weekends devouring these gardening megastores.
