Joan's wonderful collection of railway sleeper projects
I am really happy both with the used tropical hardwood railway sleepers and my lovely landscapers who took a very considered approach to creating such a homely feel to the garden. I had a brilliant idea concerning all the offcuts - the contractor took them to his workshop and cut them into wood bricks which I used all around the garden. They look beautiful in a basket weave pattern, are great underfoot, and as a small unit, much easier to handle, despite weighing more than a standard clay brick. No worries about splintering.
Thank you for being such a delight to work with and for all your patience and assistance in the (finally) successful delivery. Dare I say this project is a triumph?

Many thanks for the excellent set of photos showing your various railway sleeper projects as they were constructed. A brilliant collection of creations that are wonderful in different ways. The gentle raised beds give the impression of having comfortably existed in the garden for decades - the sign of sensitive landscaping at it's best. The railway sleeper deck is like a little wooden island to relax on, and the wooden slices of railway sleeper offcuts beautifully create a unique pinky red tiled floor. All in all, a definite triumph!
