Karen celebrates her Mother's 80th birthday with a raised bed from new pine railway sleepers

This year my mother turned eighty so I asked her what present she would like. 
"Money towards another railway sleeper raised bed", she said. 
I spoke to my brothers and their wives and we bought one between us.  1200mm x 600mm x 400mm high, the same dimensions as her previous one.
The ground was not level and we were limited as to where we could put the soil whilst we built it, hence the soil being in it during construction. We also had to contend with the fig tree. As a final touch I had a plaque made. (Hoping it didn't look too much like a burial plot!).
