Simon's raised bed & stairs from new oak railway sleepers

See attached a few photos of the project I have been working on for the last few days - raised bed from oak railway sleepers, gravel path and area for composter, and stairs (oak railway sleeper and gravel). Alot of digging required, plus 26 by 1.2 m and 3 by 1.8 m new oak railway sleepers. In total I used 750 kg sub base and 1000kg Trent 20mm gravel for the paths, and 250 kg pea gravel for the foundations of the raised bed. The railway sleepers in the stairs were laid on 100kg post-crete which worked well.  All in all a good job - now waiting to source some cream boulders to finish off the right hand side of the stairs.

Thank you so much for the brilliant stage by stage photos and the comprehensive description of your railway sleeper project. It's great to hear the practical ingredients behind a successful landscaping creation. A mixture of design, choice of materials, and lots of spade work! A great inspiration.
