John Rollings's steps / retaining wall with railway sleepers
You asked me to send you a picture of my handiwork once I'd finished. Here it is.
I should say that I don't normally do DIY, but enjoyed creating this structure, which not only looks nice but also holds back a lot of soil on a steep bank.

Well, for a non DIY person, your project is fantastic ! It is both a graceful back drop to the steps, a sturdy and stylish retaining wall and an excellent raised container for the abundance of plants you have.
