Barbara Gilbert's magnificent project with railway sleepers

This should give you some photos of the progression of the beach plot construction and the use of the lovely new oak railway sleepers. The Herne Bay Kingfisher Landscapers have very successfully created my design and worked non-stop on the exposed site in the extreme heat we had here in July. The concept was of keeping a "beach theme" but without having to deal with the upkeep of a traditional flower garden, as I now have arthritis and kneeling is painful, hence the railway sleeper raised bed. Kingfisher advised the use & provided, the very lovely turquoise grey Indian stone & the planting tends towards similar colours. The furniture here has to be fixed or too heavy to move as we do get drunken idiots who want to use anything to make a bonfire on the beach. The garden now attracts a lot of interest & favourable comment from the locals and the very many weekend visitors. Whitstable beaches are unusual in this part of the country as houses & land run directly to the beach with no road in between.
