The North Pier at Blackpool is 500m long and was built in the 1860's for £11,740. Unlike Blackpool's other piers, which attracted day trippers with open air dancing and amusements, North Pier catered for the "better-class market" (!) with orchestra concerts and respectable comedians. North Pier's attractions included a Gypsy palm reader, an ice cream parlour, the North Pier Theatre, seating 1,564, a Victorian tea room, the Carousel, Merrie England bar & sturdy railway sleeper picnic tables!

RailwaySleepers.com Says..
Blackpool can attract & upset in equal measures. Amazing Victorian piers (+ railway sleeper tables!), iconic tower, theatres, ballroom, Winter Gardens & illuminations attracting millions. Yet also tacky souvenir shops, hen & stag parties, endless bars and chip shops that front an underbelly of run down deprivation. A challenging cocktail.
