JETTY CONSTRUCTED OVER WOODLAND POND USING AZOBE RAILWAY SLEEPERS

The project with the railway sleepers worked out really well.  We have just built a new house and used the railway sleepers to create a jetty. The railway sleepers were a great choice and just as we hoped.  There was very little wastage.  The contractor did find it hard fixing into them but otherwise all went really well.  We chose these particular railway sleepers as they are not preservative treated, so look great but also don’t require regular treating.  They were also very regular and consistent which helped achieve fairly fine tolerances with the construction.

For the jetty, the contractor had two old, 6 meter long, steel I beams left over from demolishing a couple of double garages.  We re-used these to support the railway sleepers, drilling them to secretly fix them through from the underside. We were pleased that everything for the project was made from re-used materials other than the screws. Hope that’s helpful to others & possibly provides some inspiration.  We found your website really useful when looking to choose the right railway sleepers and understanding how to work with them.
