Overview

Like most things in life it's a matter of opinion!
Some people are happy with the natural rust surface of Steel H beams and U channels, when they slot in their new or reclaimed railway sleepers to create a retaining wall, compost or aggregate bay.
Others want their H beams to be a little bit smarter with a stylish finish. That's where Hammerite Paint comes in. Once applied it provides a durable, long-lasting colour finish that is designed to withstand harsh weather conditions including rain, sun and extreme temperatures. This is what the manufacturers say:

Hammerite 'Direct to Rust' Smooth Metal paints are designed to give outdoor metal surfaces a long-lasting gloss finish. The paint provides long-lasting corrosion protection for ferrous and non-ferrous metal surfaces alike, and can be applied directly onto rusty metal with no need for a primer or undercoat, as it is specially formulated to perform as primer, undercoat and topcoat in one

Features and Benefits
• Efficient protection for ferrous and non-ferrous outdoor metal surfaces
• Can be applied directly to rusted surfaces (once debris has been removed
• Provides a durable and lasting gloss finish with effective corrosion protection
• Easy application by brush or roller
• Available in a range of colours and volumes

Coverage: 5m2 per litre.
Drying time: Touch dry in 1-2 hours, recoatable after 4 hours.
Coats: 2

Application:
Ideal application temperature 8°C to 25°C. Lightly stir before use. Do not mix vigorously. Do not thin. On previously painted metal in sound condition, 1 coat should be sufficient. On bare/rusty metal 2 coats are required. Ensure that all edges and corners are adequately covered. Do not over-apply as sagging will occur. Use a roller to cover large areas fast and efficiently, and a brush for painting metal surfaces with tight corners and reaching those areas where a roller just can’t reach.
