BOB & ANNETTE'S RAISED BEDS WITH AUSSIE TROPICAL HARDWOOD RAILWAY SLEEPERS

Please find attached a few pics of our quite simple raised bed project. Our issue was that at the bottom of our already terraced garden, there were several gabions showing which looked really untidy.  A few Aussie Jarra railway sleepers soon smartened up the area.  We finished the project in 2 days.  One day to prepare the ground and the other to lay them. Boy, are those things heavy.  Fortunately, I managed to off-load the "transport" problem (from the front of the house to the bottom of the garden) onto my two sons.  Let's face it, why have children if we cannot make use of them...!
Instead of doing the right thing and hiring a chain saw to cut them, I invested in a new hand saw for £8.00 from screwfix.  It did manage, with some effort, to cut through 6 timbers but was pretty blunt afterwards.  Could not get the timberloks to drill in without a pilot hole which even with a sharp drill, again took some effort. Anyway, thanks for allowing us to share our simple project with others that may be interested.

RailwaySleepers.com supplies new and used hardwood & softwood railway sleepers throughout the UK. Railwaysleepers.com
A tale of dubious child haulage and extreme handsaw determination! Carrying heavy railway sleepers not to mention cutting tight grained tropical hardwoods is always a challenge. But once you overcome that, you enjoy a wonderful end product that looks amazing!
