TRIPLE WIN SITUATION!! UKRAINIAN oak railway sleepers have just arrived!

TRIPLE WIN SITUATION!! UKRAINIAN oak railway sleepers have just arrived!

FIRSTLY it's a great opportunity to support the D.E.C.'s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal. However you might perceive the war in Ukraine, it is crystal clear that there is massive suffering, displacement & hardship, and so for every piece of Ukrainian oak sold we will donate £3. One online order for 20 railway sleepers will generate £60 of humanitarian support.
SECONDLY it's a chance to support a family sawmill in Ukraine that had to close when the war started, as they are situated close to both Kyiv and the Belarus border. When they started production again several months ago, they used returning lorries to bring back humanitarian aid. As they said at the time: 'Difficult times. We won't give up, and we will carry on to support Ukraine'.
THIRDLY it's a chance to buy wonderful new oak railway sleepers that are brilliant for those wanting a longer lasting alternative to softwood, with a crisp, clean and neat landscaping appearance that can look architectural and stylish. They are also FSC certified, which means they come from approved well managed forests. WIN, WIN, WIN!

JAMES'S INSPIRING CURVED SEATING AREA with old tropical hardwood railway sleepers

What an impressive and imaginative use of reclaimed railway sleepers to create such an attractive seating area. James's pictures are a wonderful and meticulous step by step display of how he built his project and transformed a small functional area of his garden into a place of beauty. A curved magical oasis. All credit to him, his family and a definite inspiration to others.

A MAGICAL TRANSFORMATION WITH OLD OAK RAILWAY SLEEPERS

A MAGICAL TRANSFORMATION WITH OLD OAK RAILWAY SLEEPERS

What an impressive change to the garden. A great achievement, especially as all the work is done by Andy on his own.  It always seems amazing how a chaotic pile of earth & scattered railway sleepers can become such a beautifully landscaped garden. Obviously there is a huge amount of hard graft, but there is also something almost magical about the transformation. I especially love the corner with the steps and different terraced levels of railway sleepers.

Andy's bold steps & terrace walls with old oak railway sleepers

Andy's bold steps & terrace walls with old oak railway sleepers

Old oak railway sleepers are perfect for both retaining and 'framing' different sections of the garden, whether seating areas, lawns or raised borders. They add a touch of aged charm and sturdy strength that is a striking contrast to the neat patio tiles or manicured lawn. To top it off, the chunky railway sleeper steps are a perfect connection between the different levels of the garden, and ooze with bold rustic character. All credit to Andy.

DAVE & JANE'S PATIO & PATH WITH OLD AZOBE RAILWAY SLEEPERS

DAVE & JANE'S PATIO & PATH WITH OLD AZOBE RAILWAY SLEEPERS

A very imaginative way of using old Azobe railway sleepers to link the front and back of the garden, by creating an eye catching pathway and hard standing area to sit the wooden shed on. Particularly attractive is the way in which you've displayed the 'train track' side of the railway sleeper to highlight the timber's railway history and character. Really effective.

CALKE ABBEY'S COMPOST BAYS WITH OLD RAILWAY SLEEPERS & STEEL H-BEAMS

CALKE ABBEY'S COMPOST BAYS WITH OLD RAILWAY SLEEPERS & STEEL H-BEAMS

Calke Abbey is a wonderful place to visit with miles of sweeping parkland and a rambling 'time capsule' mansion with abandoned rooms, peeling wallpaper and a vast collection of strange and unique objects – presented and preserved exactly where the National Trust found them. Top of my list is the fantastic walled working vegetable garden with all the original tools and garden buildings largely untouched. Of course any amazing working garden needs to process tons of plant compost and huge bays have been created by slotting old railway sleepers into steel I or H-beams

ONE STEP AT A TIME! Dave's steps and walls with tropical hardwood railway sleepers

What an impressive collection of landscaping projects with railway sleepers! A stately flight of steps with castellated sides. A retaining wall with horizontally stacked railway sleepers, like huge bricks. A retaining wall with vertically placed railway sleepers like soldiers. A brilliant example of how to imaginatively terrace a slope with skill and hard graft. Can't wait to see the finished photos!

GARY'S RAISED FISHPOND (OR OUTSIDE BATH) from new pine railway sleepers

Brilliant to see photos of Gary's raised pond made from new pine railway sleepers.  A wonderfull well crafted design and creation, that is really eye catching as a stand alone raised fish pond, or even an outside bath if the mood takes him. Soaking the day away with some Japanese koi carp. Very classy. It's the real McKoi!

Robert's patio edging with new pine railway sleepers

Robert's patio edging with new pine railway sleepers

Robert mentioned that his project was 'nothing very exciting'. Sometimes very simple lines can be the most effective way of landscaping an area. Robert's edging wall from railway sleepers are a gentle and inobtrusive way of separating two sections of your garden. Sure, it doesn't shout out "look at snazzy me!", but there again that's the whole point of soft and peaceful changes to your outside space.

JOACHIM BUILDS A BEAUTIFUL WATER FEATURE FROM NEW OAK RAILWAY SLEEPERS

Many thanks to Joachim for the pictures of his beautifully crafted waterfall, that he have painstakingly made from new oak railway sleepers. In truth his water feature appears more like a precious piece of furniture such is the skill, neatness and precision he has used. All credit to him.
