PETER CONSTRUCTS A STYLISH CORNER BENCH WITH UKRAINIAN OAK RAILWAY SLEEPERS

It's great to see Peter's stage by stage pictures as he builds a wonderful L shaped garden seat using new railway sleepers. The beautiful grain and colour of the oak really shine out after sanding and oiling, and beautifully contrast with the grey tiles and white rendered walls. Very stylish.

ICONIC CAMDEN ROUNDHOUSE THEATRE CLAD WITH RECLAIMED TROPICAL HARDWOOD RAILWAY SLEEPERS

What a unique eye catching project. The Roundhouse is one of London's cultural landmarks. An iconic music and arts venue in Camden, situated in a Grade 2 listed former engine shed. So, what more fitting material could be used than to clad it with planks of reclaimed tropical hardwood railway sleepers, retired from the British railway system. Architectural design hand in hand with railway heritage! Perfect.

OODLES OF CHARACTER. ANCIENT RAILWAY SLEEPERS HOLD BACK THE SEA!

OODLES OF CHARACTER. ANCIENT RAILWAY SLEEPERS HOLD BACK THE SEA!

Bleached by the overpowering sun and pounded by the sea, these ancient weathered railway sleepers look magnificent as they proudly survive against all the elements. Of course they may not be standing there in another fifty years, but for the moment they are fiercely insistent on holding their own, with battered determination, like watchful railway sleeper sentinels.

POINT LEO'S BEACH WALLS FROM NEW RAILWAY SLEEPERS

POINT LEO'S BEACH WALLS FROM NEW RAILWAY SLEEPERS

Separating miles of sandy beach from the raised scrubby dunes, Point Leo has crisp new railway sleeper walls that look out towards Phillip Island. Naturally named after the first British Governor of New South Wales, Sir Arthur Phillip in 1788, who obviously struggled to pronounce the original Aboriginal island name of Corriong, and clearly preferred his own. Many a peaceful hour can be passed walking next to an isolated expanse of flat rock, seaweed and gentle lapping.

SMUGGLERS, SPIES, PRIME MINISTERS & RAILWAY SLEEPERS. WEYBOURNE HAS IT ALL!

SMUGGLERS, SPIES, PRIME MINISTERS & RAILWAY SLEEPERS. WEYBOURNE HAS IT ALL!

If I was telling you about the dramatic tales and larger than life characters that fill the history of Weybourne, on the North Norfolk coast, it is clear that the wind swept railway sleeper walls and steps that border the shingly beach would not be the gripping part of the story that would excite you most. Like the steam train that puffs cheerfully along the coast, there is a comforting familiarity to the bleached and weathered railway sleepers that edge the rolling dunes. It's much more likely that familes with sandwiches have sat on them, rather than smugglers, spies or an angry Winston Churchill!

FLINDERS COLLECTION OF SCULPTURAL METALWORK MOUNTED ON OLD RAILWAY SLEEPERS

Fixing eye catching sculptures of creative ironwork on top of really old lengths of reclaimed hardwood railway sleepers is a simple yet brilliant idea. The contrast between the character of the weathered historical timbers and the modern and quirky metalwork is a brilliant combination. Very unique.
